I don't much about this area so it has been good to find out the thoughts of more experienced people.
David maybe we can look at an event next year to chat through some of the issues of advocacy for people with very severe and multiple disabilities. I've certainly come accross staff who are really concerned about what they should do from an advocacy role when a person can not clearly state their wishes.
sheriSheridanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09629253279544051200noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4935886480955329612.post-2582977868889541712008-10-08T11:50:00.000+11:002008-10-08T11:50:00.000+11:00Sheridan Having worked as coordinator of a ctizen ...Sheridan Having worked as coordinator of a ctizen advocacy program I find the reference to non-instructed advocacy to be a curious one in that I would argue it potentially devalues teh communication methods used and the relationships that develop in the context of citizen advocacy which inform the advocacy practice. There is perhaps a much broader debate to be had in disability advocacy about what it means to be instructed.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4935886480955329612.post-73268498586822227982008-08-18T19:59:00.000+10:002008-08-18T19:59:00.000+10:00Can I highly recommend two sources of information ...Can I highly recommend two sources of information related to this - but at the same time note that I'm not sure that the phrase 'non-instructed advocacy' is completely helpful (ask me why another time).

The original materials about 'citizen advocacy' are very helpful about this. They take a bit of getting used to - and you have to see your way through the fog of disinformation which lingers around them though (look up the Wikipedia article for some good information). Also look through the articles here to see if anything is helpful: http://www.isja.org.uk/links_citizenad.htmlRobert Weetmanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12579745350592192881noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4935886480955329612.post-1026414130182804152008-07-13T16:11:00.000+10:002008-07-13T16:11:00.000+10:00More info found http://www.aqvx59.dsl.pipex.com/Pl...More info found http://www.aqvx59.dsl.pipex.com/Planet%20Advocacy%20June%2005.pdf - newsletter with topic of non-instructed advocacyAnonymousnoreply@blogger.com
